‘Dogfights’ end in custody battles for Kol’s unlicensed pet owners

“Dogfights” — or, more appropriately, custody battles over pet dogs — between pet owners and their caregivers in the city have started reaching police stations and courts. With just 0.5% pet owners across the city bothering to register their pets with a licence from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, proving ownership of pets is, more often than not, difficult, if not downright impossible. Several Kolkatans have found this out the hard way in the recent past, when temporary caregivers refused to part with the animals.
