Bypolls are being held on Saturday on an unusually high number of 30 assembly constituencies besides three Lok Sabha seats in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic. In a rare departure from constitutional provisions, which mandates holding of elections within six months of a seat falling vacant, the Election Commission (EC) was forced to postpone polls on a number of seats due to the pandemic.
