Why India wants investors to fill its caves with oil

India has three Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPRs) or oil caves that can store 5.33 million tonnes of crude oil. The centre is now seeking $1.5 billion in investments from global oil producers and traders to build the two additional reserves. The purpose is to ensure energy security and to insulate us from external price and supply shocks.
